Dr. James D. Dillard attended the University of Houston College of Optometry and graduated in 1971. He was awarded the Bausch & Lomb "Outstanding Third Year Student" while in Optometry school. Children's vision research was his primary field of study while in school and this provided expertise in working well with younger patients. His military service provided him with some of the now used high tech weaponry experience developed at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico having served as Chief of Optometry from 1972 - 1973.
Dr. Jim Dillard is a private practice Optometrist. He and his staff are solely responsible for the success of his practice and rely on repeat business and long term doctor - patient relationships to meet his personal and practice obligations. Fees for services and materials must be competitive while offering first quality lenses, frames and contact lenses. To quote the eye doctor, "We do not insult our patients' intelligence with '2 for 1' offers. Instead we use fair pricing for all our services and goods. Proper pricing makes it impossible to offer 2 of anything for the price of one when 1 is priced fairly. Does gimmick pricing suggest trickery in one's business?"
Dr. Dillard offers superior technology to his patients in the forms of digital photos of the inside of the eye, digital corneal mapping or topography, digital tomograms (Cat Scans) of the optic nerve and posterior pole with retinal thickness measurements for patients with diabetes and macular degeneration. This awesome technology, called the Heidelberg Retinal Tomogram, will store and compare retinal thicknesses and optic nerve topographies at future visits to detect whether one's eye disease is getting worse or is stable, thereby aiding in treatment strategies.
Treatment of pink eye, ocular allergy, dry eye, and glaucoma are some of the day to day eye problems treated by Dr. Dillard. He prides himself on being able to diagnose and treat these annoying problems quickly and efficiently with prescription medications for his patients. This is especially important with the price of pharmaceuticals.
Traditional Optometry is this practice's specialty. While they do offer high end designer frames and lenses, there is quite a lot for the budget minded. He fits all types of contact lenses including soft, silicone hydrogel, rigid gas permeable and vision correcting orthokeratology lenses which compete with lasik surgery. However should a patient not do well with the lenses to correct their vision, their vision is still correctible, unlike a failed lasik procedure.
If you like waiting in cold rooms by yourself for hours, just to have a semi-trained tech examine your eyes and vision then have the doctor grace you with 45 seconds of his undivided attention, Dr. Dillard's office is NOT for you. If, however you like personal attention and a caring staff who remembers you, you should give Dillard Eyecare a call for an appointment. Once you do, you'll call Dr. Dillard for all your eye care needs.
His office accepts many kinds of insurance and his staff works to get your claims paid if your insurance covers the services you are seeking. His office manager has over 25 years experience with insurance filing and is dedicated to getting legitimate claims paid for patients. When selecting eye wear, you are not asked to just pick out what YOU think looks good on you. His two opticians are trained to suggest the proper lens for your prescription in the correct frame for optimal visual results. Between them, they have approximately 50 years of experience in eyewear selection expertise.
